Basic Genetics- science

HEREDITY AND TRAITS:

What I learned about heredity is that human beings have two sets of 23 chromosomes, total would be 46, and when the parents have a child they both give their equal amount of share of chromosomes to that child, passing their genes. another thing I learned about heredity is that, most cells in our body has two sets of chromosomes, the sperm and egg only have one set, which is 23. When the sperm and egg join, they create one cell called the zingote, which has two sets of chromosomes, to the total of 46 chromosomes. I also learned about traits. There are three types of traits, Physical trait: which include hair and eye color, and the height. Behavioral trait: these include the way a person may act. And the last one, predisposition to a medical condition: this includes a risk of a disease you may get by a parent. But with these traits, non-genetic (environment) also influence our traits, also.

Science current event #2

In this article, it talks about how the Environmental Protection Agency decided to put more ethanol oil in gas tanks. They said that raising the 10 percent ethanol in gasoline to 15 percent was needed to meet requirements for more ethanol production, and that cars or trucks, from a 2001 model, was able to use the oil without any harm done to the vehicles. Shortly after, they stopped. The EPA is sure that the approval of the higher blend, will be made, but the decision of using higher blend, is disapproved by the automakers and others, which think that it will harm the cars. However, the Ethanol makers are sure that the higher blend is safe and have research to prove it. So, the "EPA, should immediately approve the ethanol blend," says Bob Dinneen, the group’s president.

My opinion about using Ethanol oil in cars or trucks is that let the EPA take its time and think everything thru, because if they make a decision in a hurry, they will never know what will happen, and if the research is wrong, they will be in really big trouble. So, the EPA, should prove the blend in more depth, and be more on the safer side, then being wrong and getting a big loss.

science reflection.

In science, we are learning about Ecology. In Ecology I learned many new things about our environment, and we got to do fun activities. One activity that we did was dissecting an owl pellet. We dissected barn owl pellets and we had to put the bones inside the pellet together, in order to figure out what the owl ate. This helped us determine where the owl came from. As a class result, most of the groups had mice or rodents. I really enjoyed this experiment because; I liked to take the pellet apart and taking out all the bones. Also, the part where we had to put the bones together was very fun and challenging. One thing that was challenging in dissecting the owl pellet was that in my pellet, there were a lot of fragile bones, so my partner and I had to be careful not to chip them or break them.

What I learned about an owl pellet is that they can not digest bones, exoskeletons or fur, so they throw up a pellet. The process is called regurgitation. Once an owl pellet has eaten, it can not eat again until the pellet is removed from the owl, because the pellet blocks the digestive system. Also, owls have two stomachs. The first stomach is called the glandular stomach. The glandular stomach breaks down the owl’s food, since owls cannot break down themselves. The second stomach is the muscular stomach, or the gizzard. The gizzard is where the fur, bones and exoskeletons is placed and squeezes it together, to form an owl pellet. Owls eat their food whole which is another thing I learned in this activity.

Science: current event #1

Global Warming

On February of 2007, the United Nations said that the human activity was the driving force of global warming in the past 50 years. There has been evidence that the release of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases from smokestacks, tailpipes, and more have played a role in increasing the average temperature of the Earth by more than 1 degree since 1900. They now look for new ways to help stop global warming from worsening. Businesses believe that in order to do this, we should work to better the regulation of greenhouse gases. The greenhouse effect has been around for a long time. The greenhouse effect is when gases like carbon dioxide and methane allow sunlight to reach the Earth, and preventing it from going back into space. Without the greenhouse effect, the planet would not have warmed enough to create life.

This is why I think the businesses are right. We should try to regulate greenhouse gases better so that we can save our planet. The greenhouse effect is an important factor that allows life to be formed on our planet. Right now, because of industries, large amounts of carbon dioxide have been released into the atmosphere. This caused the atmosphere to become warmer and warmer at an accelerating rate. Temperatures have gone up nearly three times the average of the 20th century. Unless we do something, the global climate will begin to rise as more carbon dioxide gases get released. Therefore, I think it is necessary to start taking action to regulate greenhouse gases. If we do not, our planet may be in risk.

Lit: Bullying

If everyone feels that bullying is wrong then why can't society or our own school community put an end to it? Relate your answer to either The Wave, Slake's Limbo or The Lord of the Flies.

Our society cany put a stop to bullying because many people who do bully others may have a reason behind. They might have a backround into bullying from their parents, or they might have some family problems going on, so they take their anger out on others (Bully them). This can relate to Lord of the Flies because Jack is always making fun of Piggy by calling him Fatty and telling him he is always wrong. Jacks behavior might be because he might have some problems in his own home, or he was brought up in that nature.

Lit: Summer Reading Questions

What sort of person do you imagine the author of the novel to be?

What I think the type of person the author must like Jazz because he planned on writing about a band. I also think he must be really into music, too. I also think that the author must have written about Bud finding his father because he maybe connecting to himself in a way.

Welcome scientists

My favorite subject is Science because we do lots of experiments, and I get to learn alot about the world around me.
The best book I read was the private seires because it is very interesting and it has a lot of mystery to it.
My favorite food in the cafetaria is the pasta because it is very tastey and the schools alfrado sauce taste very good.
On the weekends when im done with my chores, i like t ohang out with my friends and family. But sometimes when i feel like being alone, i read a book and listen to music.
If I had a free ticket to anywhere, i would go to Hawaii because i have always wanted to go there, and in the 6th grade i did a project on it, which made like what was in Hawaii.
My favorite color is green! I like green because it is a very relaxing color and my room is green.
If I had a pet, it wouuld be a hamster because they are very cute. I would name it chorlette.
This year, if I work hard enough, i hope to get good grades in all my classes, and have straight As!
